Why these numbers

The game's own explanation, as a reader sees it in the backpack.

Stamina 84

Eighty-six leaves of an original hundred and four. This is not a fragment — it is most of a book, and it is the largest surviving Stamina of any manuscript in the game.

Contend 78

Romans, both Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians and Hebrews, in one binding. It can quote the creed, the letter and the sermon without reaching for anything else.

Defend 72

An enormous, careful, early witness — and its date is still argued, from as early as c. 125 to as late as c. 225. That open question is the only thing keeping its Defend off the top.

Popularity 56

Every textual critic alive knows this codex. It takes the floor faster than any other manuscript here.

Cited for this book

Split today between the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin and the University of Michigan. Its date is genuinely open: a minority argue c. 125–150, most place it c. 175–225. Either way it is the earliest substantial witness to Ephesians we have — and it copies Hebrews straight in among Paul’s letters, which is the earliest physical evidence of how that book was filed.

Moves learned

By levelling up. A book that develops keeps what it knew and learns the rest on its new schedule.
