The Revelation is John’s; the copyist’s name is unknown
Nine broken leaves out of Egyptian sand, and one of them still says “To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus.” Ephesus’ own copy did not last a century in that climate. This did, eight hundred miles away.

Why these numbers

Twenty-six pieces from nine different leaves, the largest of them about six centimetres across. A scattered survival, and a small pool of Stamina.
Among those pieces is the letter to Ephesus, in the voice of the one who walks among the lampstands. There is nothing else in this zone that argues from that height.
The surviving text is early and good, and it is a witness the critical editions lean on.
Revelation is the book everybody has an opinion about, so its manuscripts get argued over in public. This one is recalled fast.

Early-to-mid 3rd century, found at Oxyrhynchus, now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (P. Oxy. 4499). Every other manuscript in this zone carries a letter written to somewhere else that happened to reach Ephesus. This one holds words written about the church at Ephesus, by name, in its own book — the only ancient scrap that does.
