Jovinian’s own tract does not survive at all — every one of his four propositions is known only from the opponent who quoted them to refute them.
One of the four is genuinely indefensible: that a Christian baptized with full faith cannot be overthrown by the devil. The other three are about merit, and the Reformation would argue them again and land close to where he did.
Cited for this book
Jovinian’s own tract does not survive; his four propositions are preserved only in quotation, in Jerome, Against Jovinian (NPNF2 vol. 6, public domain). Rome condemned him in 390 and Milan under Ambrose soon after. Jerome’s reply disparaged marriage so heavily that his friend Pammachius tried to pull it out of circulation, and Augustine later wrote On the Good of Marriage partly to answer the same man better.
