David
and the psalmists of Israel
Worth knowing
- The second king of Israel, remembered as much for the harp as for the sling. The largest single group of psalms in the Psalter carries the heading "of David".
- The Psalms were not written by one man. The game credits this book to "the psalmists of Israel" — David is the name at the head of the tradition, not the author of every line in it.
- P. Oxy 5101, the fragment you can carry, is a scrap of the Greek Psalms found at Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. It is among the oldest surviving witnesses to the Psalter in Greek.
